26th Wave Gotik Treffen – Dark Celebration In Leipzig, Germany

Wave Gotik Treffen has existed for more than a quarter-century and has become the largest meeting of Gothic people in the world!

This year, from June 2nd to June 5th, more than 20 000 goths are expected to come together as a large dark family!

What’s special about WGT is its unique, magic atmosphere that covers the whole city, camping site and main venue, and it is this dark charm keeps on attracting visitors from around the world. This year looks to be no exception!

The Bands

There will be more than 200 bands performing, covering a wide range of gothic music – from EBM and electro-pop, to gothic metal and medieval music. Apart from legends such as VNV Nation, The Mission and Skinny Puppy, the festival will also feature some lesser-known underground bands.

The Venue

The concerts and events are spread across 50 venues throughout Leipzig, such as the neo-antique cupola hall of the Volkspalast, the historic public bath and large concert halls. WGT also includes classical music – operas, chamber music, choral and organ concerts.

The Events

WGT is much more than a music festival. Guests get to experience the romantic atmosphere at the medieval market place, see theater and cinematic performances, enjoy a Victorian picnic, shop at the greatest gothic marketplace in the world, or dance the night away at the various clubs or fetish parties.

It's also chance to get to know the beautiful city of Leipzig, with its historical buildings of the Renaissance, Baroque and Jugendstil. Entrance to several museums and the use of public transport are all free for WGT visitors! The inhabitants of Leipzig have no prejudice since they’ve grown familiar with the Treffen (actually, WGT is what Leipzig has become famous for in the last two decades).

I myself can’t wait to experience the enchanting, dark atmosphere of the old city center, and of course, to hear the bands I love. I’m a huge fan of synth pop, so some of my personal favorites are Peter Heppner, VNV Nation, Rotersand and Angels and Agony!
