Full Throttle Saloon, World'S Largest Biker Bar, Burns Down

In a massive fire on Monday, September 28, 2015, the world's largest biker bar, Full Throttle Saloon, was razed to the ground. The bar, located in the motorcycle mecca of Sturgis, South Dakota, was featured in a reality show on truTV that showed the daily workings of a raucous and sometimes dysfyunctional (but always entertaining) family-owned bar.

Officials say that the fire may have been fueled by over 500 gallons of grain alcohol on the premises and the buildiing was completely destroyed just three hours after the fire began around 3 a.m. Firefighting crews from five nearby towns were called in to try and save the building, but the inferno was simply too large and their efforts were hampered by limited water access in the area. The fire also spread to several nearby buildings but was able to be contained.

During its busiest time of year, the first full week of August when the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally occurs, the bar served up to 20,000 people per night. There is no word yet on whether there is any sign of foul play, or whether the owner Michael Ballard will rebuild the iconic watering hole.
