1. Find out what you’re paying for:

You should find out whether or not you’re expected to pay for your own Bridesmaid dress and travel expenses. If you know you have to pay for your own formal party dress, save early. This is especially true if you have more than one wedding you’re attending as a bridesmaid. Being in weddings can be expensive and you should consider what you can afford.

While you didn’t necessarily sign up to be a Bridesmaid, the Maid of Honor would definitely appreciate a little extra help when planning for the big day for the bride. Offer to cover the cost of drinks or even little party favors for those who attend any pre-wedding parties before the big day.

Prepare to budget

2. Get close:

You’re more than likely in league with at least one other bridesmaid in this wedding that you’re attending, even if you don’t know the other ladies that well, take this time to get to know the women (or men) who are important to the bride.

3. Don’t be picky:

While the bride knows that you’re paying for the dress, it is her big day. Try not to be too picky with what you will or won’t wear. There’s nothing worse than a pre-Madonna at a dress fitting, which adds excessive stress to the bride’s already stressful time.

If there is something you absolutely have a problem with, communicate it in a polite way with an explanation why. If you’re uncomfortable showing your cleavage in a dress, suggest a slight difference between the styles if possible. But, don’t give the bride any ultimatums.

4. Be organized:

Google Documents are an absolute saving grace for most bridesmaids. Whether you’re the maid of honor or a helping hand, you’ll find that keeping things well organized and planned out can help to relieve a lot of stress on the already frantic bride.

Stay Organized

5. Be in her corner:

Brides are always going to be extremely stressed, no matter how cool as a cucumber they may appear. Being in her corner and offering encouragement and support will go a lot farther than you may think. Having a friendly ear or even a shoulder to cry on when it becomes too much will most definitely help your friend to calm down and enjoy the moment a bit more.

6. Be empowered:

Try not to ask the bride too many questions in hopes of getting more direction. While it’s okay to clarify a question or two, once you’ve been given instructions; trying to get it together on your own or with other bridesmaids is paramount. Remember that the bride is going to be stressed out; the reason for bridesmaids is to help relieve some of the pressure she’s feeling to make her day perfect.

Take initiative

7. Don’t bite off more than you can chew:

Be realistic in what you can accomplish. Divvy up the responsibilities between you and the other bridesmaids and work together to make it work without a hitch.

Be Realistic

8. Be punctual:

Always be on time to pre-planned get togethers. If you have a plan to work as a group of bridesmaids, be there with time to spare. You should also arrive early at rehearsals and on the wedding day to help the bride get ready. Being known as the girl who wears a watch will also make you invaluable to the bride when she is trying to stay on schedule!

Don't run behind

9. Try not to take anything personally:

You’re probably seeing a side of your friend that you never knew existed right now, they’re moody, stressed, and all but pulling their hair out. Try to remember that anything said during this time is more than likely induced by the amount of stress the bride is dealing with. Try to take it all with a grain of salt.

Handle Bridezilla

10. Don’t try something new:

Now may not be the time to start that new fad diet or hair style. Remember, the dresses are made to order in most cases and any blue hair-styles may stress some brides.

Beware of trying new fads

11. Check in often:

Try to check in with the bride so she’s not stressing about getting in contact with her bridesmaids. While you don’t need to have a conversation every hour, giving her an update on any necessary information is a great way to keep her calm.
