ShamrockFest 2016 Rocked Our Faces Off!

St. Patrick's Day is known for brining out the party animal in Americans. We love our green beer and pub crawls but if you want to up the ante on your holiday celebration, you should start planning now to be at next year's ShamrockFest

Festival frenzy has been sweeping the nation for several years now but few offer the variety of a large outdoor concert with the intimate fair feel like ShamrockFest in DC. With 6 stages, carnival rides, roaming bagpipers, and a crowd of fans ready to party with one and all; Shamrock Fest is simply the best way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The Music

At the heart of any large festival lies the music and ShamrockFest mixes the best of Celtic Rock, traditional bagpipers, and DJs.

Flogging Molly, Street Dogs, and Dropkick Murphys are recognized as essential music for St. Patrick's Day parties but no playlist can compare to a live lineup with these genuinely personable performers. Huge shoutout to Dropkick Murphys for recognizing that some of the younger fans were feeling their small stature and pulling the kids up on stage for their show! These are the moments that are usually missing from larger venues, but the ShamrockFest acts all brought the personal touch.

Ironically, our favorite show of the festival was Vanilla Ice. Though he is not the first performer to come to mind when one thinks of an Irish festival, the wave of 90s nostalgia swept everyone away and the sing along echoed through the venue. From a visit by Travis Pastrana to pulling every fan he could reach onstage, Vanilla Ice made ShamrockFest his own personal dance party.

The Crowd

With such a variety of entertainment, ShamrockFest pulls a unique crowd. The carnival rides and traditional bagpipers enchant children; while quick beer service, big name bands, and the beard and kilt contests pull a more traditional party crowd.

Though the mix of young and old may sound like a nightmare for some, the overall integrity of this year's attendees made the blended audience work. In the later hours, performers like Vanilla Ice and Dropkick Murphys singled out their younger fans to allow safe viewing (and a great story for when they are back in school) by allowing the kids on stage for their sets.

And while everyone had a touch of green; fans showed their individuality with band t-shirts, novelty accessories, and kilts for the guys.
