Blonde Is Beautiful: How To Choose The Right Shade

Blonde Is Beautiful: How To Choose The Right Shade

Believe it or not, blondes suit everyone. Well, there’s at least a shade or two that will. Regardless of your natural hair hue, skin tone, and eye color, you’re going to be able to rock this hair color.

If you’ve spent hours playing around with apps that change the color of your hair to see if you suit blonde, you don’t have to do that anymore. The answer is a straight-up yes! All you have to do is find the perfect shade of blonde that complements your color palette rather than clashes with it.

There are 3 steps to figuring out which one is the right shade. In this article, we go through it step-by-step with you, including a few bonus tips!

1. Undertone: Warm or Cool?

First and foremost, figure out your undertone. Is it warm or cool? If you don’t know what the undertone is, it’s the color underneath your skin that affects your overall hue. If you have a warm undertone, you are more yellow, peachy, or golden. If you have a cool undertone, your skin has hints of pink, blue, and red complexion.

How to Check your Undertone?

Test 1: Look at the veins on your wrist. If they’re mostly blue and purple, you have a cool undertone. If it’s mostly green, then your undertone is warm. If you have a balance of both, then your undertone is neutral.

Test 2: If it's still difficult to figure out your undertone, grab a white towel and drape it over your head, shoulders, and neck. If your skin has a hint of red, then your undertone is cool. If your skin looks yellowish, your undertone is warm.

Test 3: Which jewelry do you like: gold or silver? If you have a preference for silver because it looks better, chances are you have cool undertones. Gold is better for warm undertones. Neutral undertones suit both.

After you’ve figured out your undertone, it’s time to find out what shades are great for you. You can essentially match the shade that’s opposite of your skin's undertone. You add warmth to a cool undertone by going for warmer hair colors (like golden blonde or strawberry blonde). You can add a cool hair shade (like ash blonde or platinum blonde) if you have a warm undertone.

Suppose you have a neutral undertone, congratulations. Most shades will look good on you.

Warm undertones usually suit honey, caramel, and butterscotch hues. Go for colors like:

Peachy blonde

Strawberry blonde

Honey blonde

The intensity of the color will make your hair look so much fuller, so it’s great for those who have depleted hair as well. These shades will flatter your warm undertones. Bring the glow back to both your hair and skin!

Cool shades aren’t ruled out either, as they can reduce some of the redness from your warm skin tone.

2. Shade of the Skin

3. Eye Colour

Some people are concerned if their eye color will affect the shade of blonde they go for. The thing is, blonde suits a variety of eye colors. The most traditional eye colors that suit blondes are blue and green as they are the most striking. But nowadays, those are all subjective.

It depends on how many contacts you want. If you have lighter eye colors, go for soft, multi-tonal shades to complement them. If you have darker eye color, richer and deeper blonde shades can flatter them.

When to not go blonde

The only time you should never go blonde is when your hair is not in the best condition. Your hair needs to be healthy and not damaged. Going blonde requires a few bleaches during the process, and this can destroy your hair. However, some treatments can help, like Olaplex. This rebuilds the hair from the inside out. Seek advice from your hairstylist.

Should I dye my eyebrows?

If you’re wondering whether or not you should dye your eyebrow colors to match the hair color, the answer is: that it’s not necessary. If you leave them as they are, the brows can define the face and give your blonde look a more edgy vibe. It also gives you a lot more make-up options.

If you follow these three steps, you’re going to be able to find the perfect shade of blonde for you! Are you ready to go blonde? After all, they have more fun than the rest of us!
